Ice Cream Tangent by *Delusions-Of-Grandeu:iconDelusions-Of-Grandeu:

Okay.  So.  You know when you go out to get ice cream and you always get the same flavour?  You always get that one flavour because it’s your favourite and you could eat it everyday.  Mmm.  Chocolate Raspberry Swirl.

Well, one particularly cloudy, but still warm, day you decide to go out and get some ice cream.  Even though it’s only been about a week, you still crave that Chocolate Raspberry Swirl.

OHSNAPSKIS.  They don’t have it anymore.  So.  What do you do?

Taking a look at the list of flavours you notice that there’s a new one: Double Chocolate Chunk.  You’re unsure of how long this ice cream stand will have this flavour and you don’t know if you want to try it or not.

Eventually you decide to just get a small scoop, no cone.  Just, you know, so you can try it and see how it lives up to your ultimate favourite.

However, you come back the next week and see that Double Chocolate Chunk is still there.  You enjoyed it the last time, so you get it again.  Small scoop, still.

And on and on you proceed to get Double Chocolate Chunk ice cream and it is slowly becoming one of your new favourites.  But the delicious taste of the Double Chocolate Chunk is making you miss the even more delicious taste of the Chocolate Raspberry Swirl-- your once ultimate favourite.

Callie/Erica equals Chocolate Raspberry Swirl.

Callie/Arizona equals Double Chocolate Chunk.

Erica and Callie: their relationship was probably one of the greatest relationships on primetime television.  Up until season five.  Well, after Brave New World to be exact.

You get to see what happened between Callie and Erica each week, and you wait in anticipation to see what is going to happen next.  Their chemistry is undeniable and you could watch the two of them everyday.

After a particularly long wait, AKA Summer, you tune into a new episode featuring your favourite pair.  And there’s a few episodes with them, some good, some bad.  But.  It’s your favourite pair and you’re willing to tough it out.  Because you really just want to know what’s going to happen to them.

OHSNAPSKIS.  Erica Hahn has left and is now somewhere in the Seattle Grace parking lot of doom.  And then, you know, Callie Torres breaks down on top of a dead patient and in front of an entire OR.

So.  What’s next?  What is going to happen now that Callie/Erica, your favourite pair, is no more?  Where is that Chocolate Raspberry Swirl?

And then comes along Arizona Robbins.  After, of course, a few weeks of celibacy and Hahn-less cardio surgeries.  But.  She still comes a long, spreading her butterflies all over Seattle Grace.  Perhaps her butterflies can find Hahn?

You sigh, but ultimately decide that Callie/Arizona is better than Callie just prancing off with some guy.  Besides, Arizona’s cute.  Not quite as hot as Hahn, but still cute.
Thus, creating Double Chocolate Chunk: your second favourite ice cream flavour.

You know that you will never be able to get Chocolate Raspberry Swirl again.  Just like you will never get to see Erica and Callie together on television.  Sure, you’ve got fan fiction and wanna-be Chocolate Raspberry Swirls, but it’s just not quite the same.

Double Chocolate Chunk is still there, though.  There was a one-time, fleeting moment where you thought you were going to lose that, too, but alas- it’s still there.  And it’s got chocolate chunks in it.  Even though you like raspberry swirls better.  But still.  Double the chocolate.

You see Callie and Arizona dancing together as you watch another episode, Arizona comforting Callie, the two of them kissing on the stairs, Callie introducing Arizona as her girlfriend to her father, and finally Arizona comforting Callie once again.  Comforting her after Callie decided to cut her father off for not exactly accepting their relationship.

And, as you go out to get ice cream on a rather sunny day, you wonder how it could have been for Callie and Erica.  Arizona and her butterflies (that have yet to find Hahn, by the way) are growing on you.  The two of them are fast becoming one of your favourite couples of all time.  And you realize that it’s now twice that you’ve gone out for ice cream just to get some Double Chocolate Chunk.

Stopping abruptly, you throw away your cup of ice cream.  There’s still a bit left, but you know you don’t need it.

Really now.  This is all just mad.

You love Chocolate Raspberry Swirl.  Love it.  You could eat it everyday just like you could watch Callie kiss Erica in front of the hospital at the end of the fourth season everyday.

You also really like Double Chocolate Chunk.  A lot.  You could eat at least three scoops at a time just like you could watch the few Callie/Arizona scenes over and over again until it becomes tiresome.

So.  It’s been decided.

Nothing will ever be able to replace Chocolate Raspberry Swirl-- not even Double Chocolate Chunk.

No matter how adorable Callie and Arizona are together, they will never live up to the copious amounts of chemistry that Erica and Callie had.

And then you feel incredibly sick, like you’re about to throw up.  Seriously.  You just ate your entire weight in ice cream.

YES. I really do love Callie and Arizona together...but it just won't be able to live up to Callie and Erica. But I swear...I'll never be able to look at [or eat, rather] ice cream the same.

Team Hahn: Congratulations, your life just got more interesting.
