Just to let me Down

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 11, 2009, 5:01 PM

7676. Catch it. You know you want to. Requests galore and features if you do!

:crying:

United States Scholastic Band Association National Championships.

Third place. I don't even remember our score.

We beat Old Bridge, though. Cedar Cliff got second. Rancocas Valley got first.

Guard got second place. 19.6 out of twenty. Rancocas Valley [obviously] got the caption, with 19.8 out of twenty.
----

Update for the win.

So. I most definitely got my band director to listen to the music from Avatar. I aid for him first block, during the guard class. I gave him a CD of the music, and then the next day when I was about to go deliver some music to a student in another class he was like, "So I listened to that music you gave me yesterday. It's really fantastic! I love it! I've been listening to it all morning!"

Who wants to guess what our show will be for the 2010 season? Or at least I really hope he decides to run with the awesomeness that is Avatar and find a way to get a hold of the actual sheet music and have it transposed for marching.

Yeah. IT WOULD BE SO COOL.

Oh. And. Um. I also managed to get myself into a relationship... Yeah. A girlfriend.

Band. Is. Over.

Between the Lines

Blahh. I'm incredibly tired. And sick. Quack.

Northern States Championships.

95.513.

No caption awards.

And we only got third place.

Fucking Old Bridge High School. They were assholes in the stands. Not gonna' lie. And then they had to rub it in our faces that they beat us. By .02. But our music score is a lot higher than theirs. So. HA.

And then the band that got first place, Cheshire High School, isn't even competing at Nationals. They beat us...bu a lot. Two points, actually.

And. Um. Yeah. I didn't get home until about two in the morning. Yay three hour bus rides. But not really.

One hundred themes. How challenging.

7676. Yeah. You know what happens.

From Ten Thousand Lightning Bugs

Um. Bitch please. I'm part of a state champion marching band, kthnx.

Yeah. We won at Maryland State Championship. Even though it was a standstill. An INDOOR standstill.

With the highest score at entire competition. I was only 87.6, though. But. We also got the highest scores for captions. Music. Percussion. And Overall Effect. There was supposed be a guard judge, but apparently said judge just...never showed up. But, according to the Effect judge, we currently have the highest effect score in all of USSBA, or something like that. The highest effect score they've given all season.

And. Yeah. We now have nice banner hanging up in the band room. So much better than a Chapter Champion banner.

----

So. Mid-Atlantic Regional. We won. Of course. But we only competed against one other band. We didn't do very well, though. I don't even remember our score, that's how bad it was. It was like an 88.something. Yeah. We didn't break 90.

North State Championships next week. November first. I'm kind of nervous.

7676. You know you want to catch it.

Oh hai thar deviantART. Long time, no see.

Centennial High School. Five bands in Group Three [open].

First place. All of the awards [it was a silver show, so we were only able to win Best Visual, Music, and Overall Effect]. Eight-point jump. 86.65 for the win.

Six points ahead of Cedar Cliff. Highest music and effect score in USSBA.

Urbana. Is. Awesome.

Just Show a Little bit of Brain

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 7, 2009, 4:24 PM

I am no longer a salute virgin.

Westminster high school last night [the third]. It was also my school's homecoming dance. Naturally, the entire band left right after we performed so they could make to the dance in time. But. I stayed back with three others to accept our awards. 'Cause we were the cool kids not going to homecoming.

Let me just say, doing salute is so much fun! Seriously. We had over an hour to kill before awards, so we just sat in the stands and watched a bunch of other bands until we had to go change back into our uniforms. And OHMYGOD. All of the other bands were so terrible. I'm not just saying that because I'm being conceited. They were awful. I don't even think I could explain how awful they were. At one point in time, we were covering our ears. Pitch, anyone? Apparently not. It sort of reminded me of band camp [DAY TWO], that's how bad they were.

There. Explanation of their terribleness.

So. Awards. Yay. Salute. Fun. We competed against seven other bands. Naturally, we got first place. 'Cause everyone else sucked and we didn't. We also got caption awards for best music and best overall effect. BUT NOT VISUAL. Why? I really don't know. Even our band director didn't understand ['cause we saw him after awards]. There was no awards for guard and percussion. I know, though, that if there were, we would have taken them.

Score. I'd rather not talk about our score. 'Cause 76.8 is way too low for how well we performed. We were the first to go, due to having to leave early for the dance, which played a huge factor in scoring. The better band went first and then all of the awful bands went after. If we had gone on last, our score would most likely be in the eighties. And I think the judges know that. Band director- not happy.

This time last year we jumped eleven points. Where is they Navy-Marine Stadium when you need it?

------

Okay. So. Long story short: USSBA made a mistake in scoring at our competition on the third. With everyone's score. Instead of a 76.8, our real score is something like a 78 or a 79. I don't really remember how many extra points we're getting. Apparently they accidentally scored everyone using the criteria from the first competition making everything lower...yeah, something weird like that. But we're a lot closer to breaking eighty than before. Which is something that we should have done at the competition [break eighty] but all of the crappy bands went after us. So. Yeah.

We also, supposedly, have the highest music score in USSBA. Or at least in all of Group three. I don't know how true this is, because that's what our band director said, and he's the one that told us we were first in the nation last year- for group three. LIES. USSBA isn't the only national circuit. AND. There are multiple "National Championships" for each region.

So we, supposedly, have the highest music score in the North East portion of USSBA.

7676. Catch it. You know you want to.

Yeah, that is what I mean.
